Over

I guess the season is over. It's sad that it sputtered out instead of finishing with a ski race and a celebration. I hope all of my fellow skiers are enjoying the break and either getting in some fabulous spring skiing or pursuing other activities!

I am being fairly boring and staying in Anchorage for most of the spring and probably most of the summer... but there are huge areas of alaska I haven't explored yet and it's a good summer to be a little more conservative in your travel plans and make sure that the consistent training happens.

Hi Laura--I'm a skier at Bowdoin, where Nathan Alsobrook is the coach (or at least I was--I guess I'm retired now). I was doing some research today for a class project in which we're calculating the carbon footprint of a meal at one of the dining halls at my college. I was trying to determine the origins of our applesauce, and I discovered that Wenatchee is the "apple capital of the world," so I decided that it was probably the most likely source. Just thought you might like to know.
Nat
PS It took 242 grams of carbon to get the 7 pounds of applesauce the 3638 kilometers from Wenatchee to Richmond, VA (sorry, my group was only responsible for calculating the emissions from the origin to the distributor...)

Boring, by staying in Anchorage? We have crust skiing still to come. We have an upset volcano trying to ruin it (not good but also not boring). Then we have trail runs and races. The Lost Lake showdown might finally happen. We have Bears and other big animals in the woods. We have glaciers to ski on. You have a semi-private entrance to one of the best urban parks around. We have the fastest and most supportive skiers around. Tell me about the boring part.
