Stats

Someone at FIS must be a statistician because FIS offers tons of information on its website. One good one that Erik pointed out to us is the average age of World Cup winners by year.

You can also check out the World Cup Podiums by American skiers.

Of what significance is this data that Erik shared with you from the FIS web site.

For this data to mean something I would think you would need to develop some kind of a performance profile of those same podium finishers over several years to see how they progressed. Are you suggesting that the young athletes need more time?

Is the presentation of this data suggesting that top performances is related to age? I would ask are those who are podimum finishers now, at what level did the performance as first year seniors. My concept is that top performance at a more amture age is most related to the level of performance as a last year junior or first year senior. I would enjoy reviewing that data.

anon- FIS has tons of data available, you can track the career results of any individual skier if you wanted to see what results someone had as a junior.

I guess it was just an interesting tidbit I prepublished since I knew I was going to be in Kodiak and not on the internet that day. I'll leave you to make your own inferences from the data.
